Common Roof Repairs A Homeowner Should Familiarize Themselves With

Construction & Contractors Blog

When you hear the term roof repair, you may immediately think of a repair to fix a roof leak. However, while roof leaks can be damaging and do indicate that a repair is needed, they are not the only type of roof repair that can be completed. Here are four common roof repairs that you may need to be completed on your roof in the future, and the signs that this type of roof repair may be needed.

Roofing Shingle or Tile Replacement

One of the most common types of roof repairs that are completed is replacing one or more roofing shingles or tiles. Your shingles or tiles may need to be replaced if they are damaged. Strong wind gusts can blow shingles or tiles off of your roof, debris can crack or dent shingles or tiles, or the shingles or tiles may be damaged due to algae or moss growth. If you notice a shingle or tile is missing or damaged, you are in need of this type of roof repair.

Removal of an Ice Dam

If you live in a part of the country that experiences snow and freezing temperatures, a roof dam may start to form on your roof. Roof dams are typically caused when the snow starts to melt, but then the water freezes, causing an ice dam to form. Ice dams need to be properly removed or the weight of the dam can damage your roof. If you notice that an ice dam has started forming on your roof, you need a roof repair company to remove the ice dam.

Replacement of Your Fascia Boards

Your fascia boards are the lowest hanging part of the roofing system, typically located directly behind your gutter systems. Your fascia boards are exposed to many different elements, including rain, pests, and wind. As such, it is common that these boards start to rot or need to be replaced before the rest of the roofing system does. If your fascia boards are warped, rotted, split, or damaged, you need to hire a residential roofing contractor to replace those boards.

Flashing Repairs and Replacement

The last common type of roof repair that a homeowner should know about is flashing repairs and replacement. Flashing is thin strips of metal material that help to protect small gaps between your roof and the items that protrude from your roof, such as a chimney, vents, or plumbing stacks. If the flashing is rusted, bent, or missing, repairs or replacement is needed.

If you notice one or more of the problems listed above, you may be in need of roof repair. Reach out to a residential roofing contractor to inspect your roof and determine what repairs are needed to help your roof last.

Contract Work, Construction Work, and Everything Between

The world around you consists of a lot of built structures. Obviously, these include a lot of buildings, such as schools, homes, and places of business. It also includes roads and sidewalks. But it also includes things you may not think about as often, such as playgrounds, telephone poles, and sewer systems. All of these built structures common and uncommon, are made by construction workers or contractors of some type. They're pretty incredible, their work is pretty incredible, and we are excited to write about both them and their work here on this blog. We hope you enjoy reading it, probably while inside some type of built structure.
