Construction & Contractors Blog

As a property owner, you always have to be properly prepared for a fire. You want to make sure your staff is protected, and you also want to protect the investment of your building. Fire safety updates and maintenance are key for this type of protection.

If it's been a while since you have updated your fire prevention, notification, and fire treatment items around the property, you can't wait any longer. Here are some of the things that you want to do right away.

Invest in an Updated Alarm System

Have your fire alarms tested regularly. If it's time for an update, get fire alarms that don't just detect heat, smoke, and fire, but also will send an electronic notification to your security system or cell phone. This way you are notified, and the authorities, whenever there is a sign of a fire and trouble.

Get Easy-to-Grab and Use Extinguishers

Have a fire safety team come to your business to accurately assess your fire extinguisher needs, you don't just want to do the bare minimum that OSHA requires. This may mean smaller options in small rooms and areas, but large extinguishers in shop areas or around machines or materials that are at a high risk of catching fire.

These extinguishers also need to be replaced over time because they can expire and become faulty. Place these extinguishers around your facility and train your staff to use them as needed in case there is a fire.

Install an Overhead Water Sprinkler System

Although it is a costly investment, an overhead water sprinkler system is a great way to keep your building safe and put out a fire, especially if no one is in the building when the fire starts. This sprinkler system will be activated by heat or smoke, and this can also have wireless controls and notifications. This could be the difference between trapping and putting out a fire right away or having a fire spread through the building until authorities can get there.

There are fire safety professionals that can come to the property to assess where your biggest risks for a fire are, and how you can make the building safer. Once you have made any updates and changes, be sure to let your commercial property insurance provider know. There may be discounts that you get for making these different types of changes and fire safety upgrades.

They're pretty incredible, their work is pretty incredible, and we are excited to write about both them and their work here on this blog.
